the "shift+R" rules are :
Quote:Race: Shift-R Usage
1. One Shift-R (Start-Shift-R) allowed during first lap for any reason.
Usage requires zero length pit stop penalty (stop+go)
2. One Shift-R (Track-Shift-R) allowed during race on track, without penalty, in order to restore a crashed car only.
2.a One extra Shift-R at the Ring only (Ring-Shift-R), after Track-Shift-R, with a pit drive-through penalty at about 100 km/h.
Usage of Track-Shift-R or Ring-Shift-R in order to recover from any engine problem is NOT allowed(!).
(well - we must admit that things now become a bit complicated 
)
3. Any number of Shift-R (Pit-Shift-R) allowed in the pits, without penalty, for any reason (including engine failure or lack of fuel)
